Difference Between Permeate Vaporization and Vapor Permeation Process Applications In Molecular Sieve Membrane Dehydration

I don’t know if you know about membrane dehydration. In short, membrane dehydration is an emerging membrane separation technology. The current mainstream membrane material is NaA molecular sieve membrane.

Why the process can achieve energy saving and high production value?

What is a molecular sieve membrane and what are its characteristics?

What is the difference between permeate vaporization and vapor permeation process?

Molecular Sieve Membrane is a new type of membrane material that can realize molecular sieving, and the molecular sieve membrane layer plays the role of sieving, with uniform and consistent pore size.

At present, the mainstream molecular sieve/zeolites membrane in the market is NaA molecular sieve membrane, which consists of a tubular ceramic support body and a molecular sieve membrane layer on the surface, with a pore size of 0.41nm, and is mainly used for solvent dehydration and refining.

The industrial application of molecular sieve membrane consists of two main processes: permeation vaporization and vapor permeation, what are the differences between them in the solvent dehydration process?

Permeate vaporization (PV) is the separation process by selective absorption of water in the mixed solution, diffusion of water within the membrane, and desorption at downstream of the membrane to achieve the effect of water separation. The permeate vaporization process absorbs a large amount of heat to vaporize the water supply.

Vapor permeation (VP) separates water by selectively absorbing water from the gas mixture, which diffuses within the membrane and desorbs at downstream of the membrane. The vapor permeation process absorbs less heat.

As we can see, the biggest difference between permeate vaporization and vapor permeation is that the working conditions are different: permeate vaporization is liquid phase solvent separation and water is vaporized and separating in the membrane permeation process; while vapor permeation is gas phase solvent separation, solvent and water are firstly vaporized and then separated through the membrane.
